"On Naming Everything"
The present paper is concerned with whether everything that exists is capable
of being named. Specifically, we are interested in C. Anthony AndersonŐs recent
suggestion that there are no good arguments for (or against) the hypothesis
that everything is nameable. The position we defend is that Anderson is
mistaken; formal arguments used in computation theory are discussed and then
certain philosophical applications are drawn. We conclude that everything, with
specific emphasis on the real numbers, is capable of being named.
